I've just bought myself a QNAP TS-453 Pro to replace a Synology NAS, I use it for streaming video and audio, the latter using LMS. After I ordered the QNAP I realised that LMS was no longer supported. However I have did some reading and decided to go ahead with the purchase.
I've just set up the QNAP and downloaded this file http://downloads.slimdevices.com/Log..rver-7.8.0.tgz as my NAS has an intel processor and I read on a previous thread on this board that this was the correct file.
Next I worked out that tgz was a compressed format and have extracted it to a .tar file. Unfortunately when I try to install the program I get an error message 'install failed due to file format error'
I now understand from the Sqeezebox forum that I need to do the following before I can install LMS:
1. Create the PERL environment with SSOTS/ SSODs
2. Install a revised BASH binary in order to prevent vulnerability to the SHELLSHOCK virus.
As I'm completely new to all this (and did not anticipate the complexity) I would be grateful for firstly confirmation that the above is correct and secondly where I can find an easy to understand (I have no knowledge of UNIX at all) step by step guide to doing above.
