    A successful read is signaled by an audible tone or a jingle (previously uploaded), plus a good-read green spot. The side and upper illuminators become green (unless another color has been configured with Datalogic Alad- din™ configurator). Once the reader is correctly inserted into the stand, it is immediately ready to automatically read any code present in its reading area without pressing the trigger.

    Programming can alternatively be performed using the Datalogic Aladdin™ Configuration application, which is available from the Datalogic website listed on the back cover of this manual. This multi-platform utility program allows device configuration using a PC. It communicates to the device using a serial or USB cable and can also create configuration bar codes to print.

    Chapter 2 Setup Unpacking Check carefully to ensure the scanner and any cables or accessories ordered are present and undamaged. If any damage occurred during shipment, contact Technical Support on page 3. KEEP THE PACKAGING. Should the unit ever require service, it should be returned in its original shipping container.

    Setup Connect Host Interface The scanner kit you ordered to match your interface should provide a compati- ble cable for your installation. If this is not so, contact Technical Support. The scanner can communicate using the following interfaces: RS-232 Serial Connection Turn off power to the terminal/PC and connect the scanner to the terminal/PC serial port via the RS-232 cable as shown in Figure 3.

    Setup Stand Installation The stand can be affixed to a flat Screws surface such as a desk or countertop. If needed, it can also be easily removed. To install the stand: 1. Remove the protective film from the rubber feet and adhere them to the corresponding recessed areas on the bottom surface of the stand.

    Using as a Hands-Free Stand The Heron HD3130 Stand can be used as a hands-free stand. Once the reader is correctly inserted into the stand, it is immediately ready to automatically read any code present in its reading area without pressing the trigger.

General Description


The new Heron™ has been developed by Datalogic in order to satisfy all requirements at the POS, providing high performance and an innovative design suitable for small retail POS applications. Xpand rally xtreme no patch java.

The new Heron™, based on the “INSTINCTIVE READING DISTANCE” concept (from near contact to over 20 cm), includes the “green spot” (Datalogic patent application), which provides “good reading” feedback directly on the code, where the user usually tends to be looking.

The stand included in the package allows the reader to be used in hands-free mode. If placed correctly in the stand, the reader beeps and automatically switches to hands-free mode. The green spot remains on to show the operator where to position the code under the Heron™ for quicker and intuitive reading. As a result, Heron™ is effective as a hand-held reader and presentation scanner. Heron™ also provides full connectivity: three models are available with different interface sets. Besides the standard D130 multi-interface model (RS232, USB, WEDGE & WAND), other models are also available: the D110 model, which provides complete connectivity to main IBM cash registers and POS terminals, and the D140 model performs undecoded reader applications.

In addition, Heron™ reads Reduced Space Symbologies (RSS), an emerging symbology that can be printed on a smaller label, which meets emerging market needs for a greater amount of data on a symbol guaranteeing investment protection.
